In the Jakob Zimmermann Trio, classical tonality is organically expanded and interwoven with complex rhythms. The motifs are developed dramaturgically within extended forms. The compositions seem both complex and minimalist and develope a idiosyncratic breath.
Clear structures are intentionally broken, creating space for interactive improvisation. Melancholy is always near.
Influences include Tigran Hamasyan, Porcupine Tree, Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau, Chick Corea and J.S. Bach.
The debut album Resistance was released in 2021 under the Edition Ö1 (ORF) label. Performances include appearances at Jazzfest Wien, Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige, Treibhaus Innsbruck, Outreach Festival, Porgy & Bess, Radiokulturhaus Wien, among many others.
