Album: Essentials

After completing my trio album, I felt the urge to expand the ensemble by one instrument to explore more compositional possibilities. As a lover of the lower register, it quickly became clear: a second double bass. I had already been fascinated by using the bass beyond its traditional supporting role. But what happens when there are two basses—and still no harmony instrument? My goal was to explore new roles for them: harmonic, melodic, percussive, or in duo with the saxophone. I chose two contrasting sounds: Andreas Waelti’s warm, full tone and Beate Wiesinger’s sharp, precise one—grounded by Herbert Pirker’s energetic drumming. The compositions move between structure and freedom, rooted in the tradition of jazz.
