Right at the start of the album, after just a few bars, Franz Schubert’s secondary theme from the Unfinished Symphony suddenly comes into focus. The album closes with a nod to Calypso, featuring Sonny Rollins’ classic St. Thomas. Leonhard Skorupa — a key figure in the Austrian jazz scene, saxophonist, clarinetist, and bandleader of groups like Znap, Woody Black 4, Sketchbook Quartet, and Sketchbook Orchestra — effortlessly and tastefully showcases his love for eclectic creativity.
