Album: Essence

Viola Hammer (piano, voice) and Patrick Dunst (reeds, electronics) take on the challenge of a reduced, intimate setting as a duo, thereby entering a completely different field of experimentation than in the large-scale ensembles in which the two have previously encountered each other. The CD "Essence," released as part of the Ö1 Jazz contemporary series, invites listeners to immerse themselves in their very personal, fragile musical world. Five original compositions are framed by freely improvised miniatures in which the two musicians focus on the spontaneous essence of musical communication. The result is a production that draws from two highly individual sources and thrives on the musical dialogue with one another.
