Newcomer: Elisabeth Kaplan

Elisabeth Kaplan once serenaded her pre-school teacher mid-bite, prompting Sister Aquin to suggest perhaps finishing the sandwich first. Originally from South Africa and now based in Vienna, she’s a singer with an unmistakable silky tone, a songwriter with a love of retro flourishes and luscious jazz harmonies, and a film composer with an Oscar nomination under her belt. Her influences stretch from 1970s soul to EDM and a whole lot in between, and she delights in weaving them into music that feels both timeless and fresh. When she isn’t in the studio, she can be found struggling to tame her monkey mind, wondering why it can’t just be autumn all year round, and procrastinating by making herself too many lactose-free lattés – all while occasionally singing with her mouth full.
