Newcomer: Anna Sophia Defant

Anna Sophia Defant is a pianist, improviser, and composer focusing on free improvisation and experimental jazz. She took workshops with artists such as V. Pongrácz, C. Wenger and C. Lillinger and studied at the mdw in Vienna. She performed with the duo søch at the Jazzfestival Saalfelden, where their debut was released on JazzWerkstatt Records. In 2024, she released her album “s:e” on Unit Records, collaborating with M. Prowaznik, K. Herbert, and J. Gnigler. She is currently working on new releases with the trio Defant/Forciniti/Gnigler, the duo Juni 7 with C. Reiner, a quartet with M. Prowaznik, R. Preuschl, and F. Hautzinger, as well as a solo project featuring Keybird x1 and electronics.
