Lukas Meißl Trio: Great Austrian Songbook

Projekt Beschreibung

Ambros meets Thelonious Monk, Johann Strauß Chick Corea. The Great Austrian Songbook links the Great American Songbook with 200 years of Austrian music – from Viennese songs and film scores to Austropop. Pianist Lukas Meißl (30) reshapes familiar melodies through deconstruction, rearrangement, and original compositions into a contemporary jazz idiom. Ambros’ “Schifoan” turns into a bebop downhill run, a Nestroy text into a jazz ballad, film music into free jazz. Meißl is joined by Andreas Reisenhofer (drums) and Maximilian Kreuzer (bass), with guests Ines Reiger (vocals), Christian Bakanic (accordion), and Peter Kunsek (clarinet). The result: a unique cross-over, a jazz panorama of Austrian popular music – and a witty, tongue-in-cheek mapping of the Homo Austriacus.
