Project Description
Deep Roots is the current project of pianist and composer Alan Bartus, presenting original music shaped by his artistic development and two years within the New York jazz scene. Grounded in the jazz language yet oriented toward its further development, the project explores contemporary rhythmic structures, harmonic concepts, open forms and collective improvisation. At its core is the interaction of the trio and Bartus’s individual approach to composition and piano improvisation. The upcoming album was recorded with drummer Michael Ode, known for his work with Kenny Garrett, and double bassist Stefan “Pista” Bartus. Deep Roots represents a contemporary approach to jazz in which its foundations serve as a point of departure for a personal and forward-looking musical language.
