"The spoken word poem only becomes effective when read aloud," said Ernst Jandl (1925-2000), the undisputed best interpreter of his own works. Whether sound poems, poems in "degraded language," or quatrains known as "stanzas," only Jandl's oratorical art made them resonate adequately. To rescue this impressive, unmistakable voice and Jandl's poetic work from oblivion, Christian Muthspiel composed "from Jandl to Ernst" specifically for his unorthodox jazz orchestra ORJAZZTRA VIENNA: The work creates the illusion of a live performance with Ernst Jandl by featuring his voice, extracted from various recordings, as the main soloist.
