Project Description
The name of the ensemble Kuhle Wampe deliberately refers to the proletarian film of the same name, "Kuhle Wampe oder: Wem gehört die Welt" (1932), with its avant-garde formal language (co-director: Bertolt Brecht) and Hanns Eisler's contrapuntal film score. The ensemble's guiding principle is an artistic engagement with politics and society: political content is placed in musical context, commented on, processed, and further developed – samples and spoken text fragments are woven with tailor-made compositional practice.
